Review

Loudness delivers an energizing metal record somewhere in between Western influences such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, KISS, Led Zeppelin and Def Leppard. Japanese lyrics and a lot of thrash metal power at some points add a unique sound and identity to this melting pot even if the whole thing still sounds a little bit like an honest homage to the band's idols.

From catchy and energizing hymns like "Loudness" to diversified half-ballads with guts such as "To Be Demon" or to highly addicting commercial tracks like the bonus track "Bad News" that would have been an excellent single choice, the band delivers a lot of diversified high quality material on their debut album. The vocals are emotive and motivated, the bass is audible and does a great job with the drums and the guitar solos are perfectly executed. Riffs like on "Sexy Woman" or "Street Woman" are not only catchy but surprisingly professional and written for the ages to come. The songs are addicting and entertaining and there really isn't anything negative to tell about this impressive first powerful record. The songs still have a certain old school charm today but have generally aged very well. One can't really expect much more from a debut record and the only thing that separates this piece of genius from an even higher rating is that it didn't hit as hard as it should have internationally and didn't invent or reinvent a genre.

It's a shame that this band has only a few reviews on here and still has an underground status out of Japan. Those guys rock like hell from the beginning on and this record is by far better than many debut efforts of Western metal bands that have come to success. Anybody that likes heavy metal with some hard rock and thrash influences should check this record out and purchase it. The pleasure is almost guaranteed and I will check out the other records of this Japanese legend very soon as they already deliver an excellent heavy metal record at such a young state of their career.
